HOS Disbanded
When formed in 1987, HOS had a dual purpose – to provide a forum for improving our understanding of Objectivism and to promote Objectivism in the community. The landscape for Objectivism now is very different than it was three decades ago. At that time, ARI had just started as a fledgling organization, and the only way to promote the influence of Objectivism was to have organizations like ours around the country bringing content to the local community. Today, with the internet, Zoom, and ARI’s massive success and expansion (from 2 employees in 1985 to over 50 now), with many thousands of supporters and followers, older and frequent new content available online, new intellectuals, and now a university, that purpose of bringing Objectivism to the local community is not so necessary. Local Objectivists interested in educating themselves have many avenues to do so. And interacting with other Objectivists has never been easier given the number of ARI Conferences and Facebook and Zoom book discussion groups. In light of this, the executive committee decided to disband HOS in September 2022.
Tribute to a Hero
On May 26, 2021, Herb Grossman passed away. While few HOS members knew Herb personally, all of us have been indirectly impacted by him. Herb was Warren Ross’s high school math teacher and a lifelong friend. Several of Herb’s former students wrote a tribute to him. You can download the tribute by clicking here.
